Indeed wonders shall never end. At TopStories.co.za we recently learned that South African ladies actually drink cooking oil before going out to drink. Yes that's right and the reasons are a bit bizarre to say the least.

Apparently drinking cooking oil prevents these ladies from getting drunk at the groove. We asked a few South African women who actually drink cooking oil before going to the groove, why even drink alcohol in the first place if you don't want to get drunk? They decided to answer us only if we can keep them anonymous and here are some of their responses.

One woman said she does this when she knows that she is not going to be the one paying for the drinks but rather someone else, preferably a man who just got paid. She does this so as to make sure that she drinks the man the whole night and possibly even finish his salary if possible. We assume this is where the phrase "Go hloba monna" comes into play. The woman further added that, she also does this in order to drink all night and not have to sleep with the man who is buying (Moreki). Because by the end of the night she will have drank as much as she possibly can but will still be sober as a judge while the man who was buying for her will most probably have blacked out.

Another woman says she only found out about this method when she told her friends that she has decided to quit drinking because of the regrettable decisions she always makes whenever she is drunk. Then one of her friends told her that she should drink fish oil before going to the groove. It will help her not to vomit and she will become like a brick the whole night and not get drunk.

One woman said she does it because she has seen how men take advantage of drunk women at the groove so she is doing it for her own safety.

We took this information to our social media platforms and asked people for the opinions and here are some of the opinions people shared with us online.

One person said "No wonder it smells disgusting at the groove, ya'll fart fish oil."

One person said "Most people who drink oil or Eno do not buy for themselves, they just want to waste other people's money!:

Another person said "This is my first time hearing this. I am going to try it but because of soft life problems i will use olive oil."

One person simply said "What a waste of money."

Then someone said "The theory that the cooking oil covers the lining of your intestine, that way your body doesn't absorb the alcohol, instead it goes straight to your bladder."

Another person said "So, they don't want to get drunk at a place they should get drunk?"
